Christine Spoon

Christine Spoon, 89, of Burnsville, Mississippi, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at her home. Christine’s faith was a very important part of who she was. For most of her life, she was a member of Antioch Freewill Baptist Church, but later on, she enjoyed attending Mt. Zion and Fairview Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. The choir and gospel music brought her lots of joy, and she loved riding around town listening to it when she got out with her family.

Christine loved being outside. When she was able, she always made sure her yard was pristinely manicured and made sure the cemetery was well kept up. Even when she couldn’t get out of the car or see very well, it brought her lots of happiness for her family to bring her see all the flowers she had laid out. Hunting and fishing were especially near and dear to her heart, and she had out-hunted and out-fished everybody in Burnsville. Christine was very competitive. Rook, pitching washers, and cornhole were among some of her favorite pastimes, and she was celebrated as the ultimate Rook champion, famous for shooting the moon if someone else was about to win and still coming out ahead.

Christine was lovingly known as “Maw” or “Maw P” to everyone in Burnsville and was well known for her kind and welcoming spirit. She was a friend to all, and her home was always open for anyone looking for an ear to bend.

Above everything, Christine loved her family. Her grandbabies, great-grandbabies, and great-great-grandbabies brought her so much pride and joy, and she couldn’t wait for her latest great-great-grandbaby, Embreigh, to be born.

Christine is survived by her children, Lesa Elliott (Bobby) and David Hudson (June); her grandchildren, Jodi Powers (Bryan) and Matthew Hudson; her great-grandchildren, Lauren Harris and Katie Clayton (Brody); her great-great-grandchildren, Mason Davis, Kaden Davis, and Embriegh “Molly” Clayton; her siblings, Ernestine Whitfield and Norma Julen (Mike); and a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clay Hudson; her second husband, Tereal Spoon; her parents, Millard and Onie Blakney; her brother, Billy Blakney; and her sister, Lorene Johnson.

Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by Bro. Tim Blakney and Bro. Bobby Elliott. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.
