Edna Murrah

Edna Allene Hardwick Murrah, 84, of Iuka, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at Southern Magnolia in Iuka, Mississippi. Born to Clyde and Boyce Hardwick on March 8, 1941, Edna devoted her life to family, education, and her community. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Franklin Murrah, on January 25, 1963, and together they built a life of commitment and kindness.

Edna is survived by one daughter, Melisa Murrah Little (Wes) of Hueytown, AL; one son, Casey Murrah (Joy) of Corinth; four grandchildren, Ashton Murrah (fiancé George Tzotzolas), Braxton Little (Paige), John Ellis Murrah, and Brennen Little; and one great-grandchild, Hadley Little. She is also survived by one sister Mary Helen Hardwick Elliott of Burnsville; one brother, Orlander Hardwick (Rotha) of Corinth, one brother-in-law, Norman Hamm of Tuscumbia, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Marcia Murrah of Lynn Haven, Florida; special caregiver and friend, Patricia Dugan of Iuka, and 23 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Lloyd Murrah; her parents, Clyde and Boyce Hardwick; and her siblings, Lola Crawford, John Lloyd Hardwick, Jerry Wayne Hardwick, and Nancy Springfield.

For 31 years, Edna dedicated herself to the Iuka School District as a physical education teacher, basketball coach, history teacher, and elementary gifted teacher. Her commitment to education made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

A member of Iuka Baptist Church, Edna was actively involved in church life and community service. She embraced adventure, traveling extensively across 49 of the U.S. states (Hawaii was the only one she lacked), hiking in the Smoky Mountains, and sharing her love of the outdoors with family and friends. After retiring, she and Lloyd worked for several years at Yellowstone National Park, continuing to inspire those around her with her zest for life.

A Celebration of Life is set for Thursday, November 6, 2025, at noon at Iuka Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Hancock and Dr. Nathan VanHorn presiding. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10am until service time.

Pallbearers include Chuck Counce, Deran Hamm, Braxton Little, Brennen Little, Benny Murrah, John Ellis Murrah, and George Tzotzolas.

The family would like to thank Southern Magnolia, Gentiva Hospice and Janie Tensley and staff for the loving care they provided for Mrs. Murrah.

Edna’s legacy of love, service, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
