Lacy Eugene Hathcock, 88, of Iuka, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Lacy was honored to have served his country as a member of the United States Army and was proud to have trained in Germany from 1960 until 1962. Once out of the Army, he joined the workforce and also began building up his homeplace. Throughout the years, his hard work became clearly evident in his home and his family. He would come home from work just to work more on his farm, and he took every chance he got to instill good values and work ethics into his family. He loved his farm and his animals and was well known for his game chickens. When he wasn’t on the homestead, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and running his beagles, and he enjoyed it even more when he got to spend that time alongside his children and grandchildren. Lacy was a good worker, a great farmer, and an even better man. He was quiet, but when he spoke, he spoke with meaning, purpose, and truth, and he will be deeply missed.
Lacy is survived by his children, Eric Hathcock (Sandy) and Heather Cartwright (Mike); his grandchildren, Richard Hathcock (Erin), Alex Hathcock, Raven Welch (Jesse), Jakki Duncan (Grant), and Jarri Vandiver (Tyler); his great-grandchildren, Rozlyn Hathcock, Hayden Horton, Waylon Duncan, and Hudson Duncan; his beloved cats, Bird and Calico; his dog, Bug; his chickens; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Whitlock Hathcock; his parents, Lacy Fredrick and Mamie Hathcock; his sister, Cathye Walker; his grandson, Memphis Cartwright.
