Lila Mae Ham, an iconic resident of Iuka, born on October 30, 1927, in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, passed away at her residence on July 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and kindness.
Lila's journey began in her early years, and by the age of 17, she started her working career at Sears - Crosstown in Memphis, Tennessee, where she learned the value of hard work even if it meant having to lie about her age. In the late 60s, she moved back to Iuka becoming one of its most celebrated and beloved artists. She shared her skills by teaching art to hundreds of students in her home. With a keen eye for home decor, she created custom-made drapery for many homes and businesses. Lila worked as a hostess at the Country Squire for many years, and ultimately retired from the Army Corps of Engineers on the Tenn-Tom Waterway while continuing to embrace her art endeavors.
Lila graduated from Cherokee High School in 1945. Her community involvement was evident in many ways, particularly with her time spent with the Friends of the Library, where she fostered a love for reading.
Lila is survived by her daughter, Denise Voyles (Stephen); and her grandchildren, Claire Devine and Clinton Richardson (Amanda). One of her greatest blessings were her great-grandchildren, Lotus Lee, John Devine, and Kiera Richardson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Sue Hamm.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Grady A. Ham; her parents, J.W. and Urah Riley; and her siblings, Arthur Cecil "Pete" Riley, Wanda Yost, Willard Daugherty, Bradford Eugene Riley, and Paula Methvin.
Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be held at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, on August 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. The Reverend Doctor Nick Phillips will officiate the service, with Debbie Gann Hamrick delivering the eulogy. Lila Mae Ham touched many lives, and her spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
