Mary Louise Biggs

October 31, 1932 — June 30, 2025

Iuka

Mary Louise Biggs, age 92, passed away Monday morning, June 30, 2025 at her home in the Central Community north of Iuka.

Mary was born, October 31, 1932, the daughter of Charlie and Blanche Biggs. She was born in the home she grew up in, located behind the Old Central School. The Biggs home still stands today and was built by Mary’s grandfather, Al Davis.

Mary attended Central School and graduated from Iuka High School. She attended both Harmony Methodist and Camp Ground Methodist, driving her parents to their home churches throughout the years.

After school she worked at the Iuka Shirt Company for many years before moving to the Tishomingo Shoe Company where she retired when they shut their doors.

Mary was known for her sweet/quiet disposition and strong work ethic. She spent her retirement working in her beautiful yard and helping her sister, Miss Rayma, research the family history. Together they published “The Jesse Tree”, a history of the Biggs family from England to settling in Mississippi. They also worked with their cousin, Irene Barnes, in researching and publishing the first cemetery book of Tishomingo County.

Mary doted on her many nieces and nephews when they were young. She was always there to comb your hair, color with you, and play cards. She was a wonderful cook, and always made special treats on her Halloween birthday. In her later years she enjoyed helping her sister, Alma Ruth, “baby set” her two grandchildren, Colton and Monica, who brought children’s laughter back into the Biggs home.

Mary Louise is survived by her nieces and nephews: Charles Biggs, Linda June Stricklen, Catherine Norman, Lynette Vale, Charlotte McVay, Martha Biggs, Larry Biggs, Gary Biggs, and John Dennis Daugherty; and 16 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Rayma Biggs and Alma Ruth Daugherty and husband D.S.; and brothers, Howard Biggs and wife Euna Mae, Jesse Biggs and wife Ruth, Alton Biggs and wife Elaine, Johnny Biggs and wife Daisy, and twin brothers Herbert and Hubert, who died at birth.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, with Bro. Dallas Culver officiating.

Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. An online guestbook may be accessed at www.cutshallfuneralhome.com.
