Richard G. “Rick” Grisham, 70, of Iuka, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 18, 2026, after a long battle with his health.
Rick was a great man that loved his family, his friends, and his sports. He was proud of his hard work and athleticism and even prouder that it passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was athletic his entire young adult life, but he was a star athlete and played college football for Northeast MS Community College and Millsaps College, where he was inducted into the Millsaps Football Hall of Fame. During his time in college, Rick made many friends, and most of those friendships lasted his entire life and were deeply cherished.
Rick’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He met the love of his life, Vicky, in 1977, married her in 1978, and started their family in 1979. Their journey began with their daughter, Jami, who kept him on his toes from a young age. He started and coached a youth softball league for her in Iuka that is still active today. Throughout the years, he took great joy in seeing her excel in her academic and work life, and his respect for her grew every time he saw her fierce personality and bravery shine. Once Rick and Vicky welcomed their son, Jesse, their pride and happiness only grew. Rick was very involved with his son’s athletic career and advocated for him every step of the way. While Jesse was young, Rick started coaching him and even played a large role in combining the Iuka and Burnsville peewee football league. Throughout high school and college, he pushed Jesse and supported him and made sure he found every opportunity he could to succeed, which he did. As his children got married, Rick gladly welcomed his new in-laws. Wesley, his son-in-law, was a joy to have around, especially in Rick’s final days when he’d helped him through his illness. He also loved his daughter-in-law, Mikayla, like one of his own and was so pleased that his son found such a great woman to love and care for him. His grandchildren being born introduced him to a new kind of love and adoration. They were the lights of his life, and he constantly bragged on them. He loved watching Mattie Claire at her pageants or dance performances and Clay at his sports and school activities. He was so excited seeing who they were growing up to be and never missed a chance to spend time with them and the family. After moving back to MS, Rick was at peace knowing he had gotten his Vicky home, and some of his best times in life were spent on the back porch relaxing with her.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Vicky Grisham; his children, Jami Orick (Wesley) and Jesse Grisham (Mikayla); his grandchildren, Mattie Claire Orick and Clayton Orick; his siblings, Jimmy Grisham (Betty) and Martha Jane Grisham Diana; his sister-in-law, Darlene Cox (John); his brother-in-law, Bruce Ward (Tammie); his aunt, Dianne Biddle; his mother-in-law, Mamie Ward; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Billy Grisham; and his special aunt and uncle, Bobby and Shelby Grisham.
Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel.
