Rita Gorski, a beloved mother, devoted homemaker, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. Louis University Hospital. Born on December 30, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, Rita lived a life enriched by love and service to her family and community.
Rita dedicated several years of her career as an administrative secretary before embracing her role as a full-time homemaker and mother to her three loving children. Her commitment to family was unwavering, and she took great pride in nurturing and supporting her loved ones. Rita is survived by her daughter, Dr. Marie Gorski, who is married to Terrence Doyle.
Rita was also a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church, where she demonstrated her deep faith and commitment to her community. Known as a dear and cherished friend to many, Rita's warmth and kindness endeared her to all who had the privilege to know her; truly, to know her was to love her. She was a beloved aunt to many cherished nieces and nephews, leaving a legacy of love that will endure through them.
Having graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1943 and the class of 1945 from St. Alphonsus Commercial School, Rita valued education and personal growth. Her passion for life was reflected in her hobbies and interests, particularly as a devoted fan of Chicago sports teams, especially the Cubs and the Blackhawks. Rita had a special fondness for her beloved dogs, Russell and Honey, who brought her immense joy. She also loved traveling, fishing, gambling, and watching soap operas.
Rita was preceded in death by her spouse of 51 years, Ferdinand "Fred" Gorski, and her two sons, Leonard and Michael Gorski. She is also reunited with her parents, Clement Levitzke and Clara Kolosieke, along with her siblings, Roman (Betty) Levitzke, John (Ann) Levitzke, Paul (Norma) Levitzke, Edward Levitzke, Joseph Levitzke, George (Kay) Levitzke, Robert (Jean) Levitzke, Bernard Levitzke, Lucille (Macy) Maciejczyk, Bernice (Michael) Foltman, Pearl Levitzke, Viola Levitzke, Sister Mary Arlene Levitzke SSND, and Arlene (Rudy) Accomando.
Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at St. James Catholic Church in Corinth, MS, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. A Mass will be celebrated in her honor at the same location on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, commencing at 1:00 P.M., followed by her burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MS.
Rita Gorski will be remembered for her incredible spirit, her devotion to family, and the love she shared with all who crossed her path. She leaves behind a profound legacy of kindness and compassion that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
