Vernell Wadkins, a beloved matriarch, was born on April 30, 1942, in the heart of Mississippi. She peacefully departed this world on July 31, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Vernell was of the Baptist faith, which served as a guiding light throughout her life.
Her love for life was perhaps most beautifully evident in her passion for working with her flowers. Vernell had an extraordinary ability to nurture both plants and relationships, flourishing in the company of her family and friends. Her proudest accomplishment was the cherished time spent with her loved ones. To Vernell, family meant everything, and her warm spirit created bonds that will endure through generations.
Vernell leaves behind her son, Dwight Wadkins, and his wife Sherry; her daughter, Denise Medley; and her adoring grandchildren, Justin, Emalie, Kenlie, and Aleigha. The joy of her life was further enriched by her great-grandchild, Sawyer, who brought her immense happiness and a legacy of laughter. She is also remembered fondly by her nephew, Brent Holcomb.
Vernell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Wadkins, whose presence she missed dearly, as well as her parents, Rebon and Letha Wilson, her son-in-law, Dennis Medley, and her sister, Janette Wilson. Each person she lost left a mark on her heart and shaped the nurturing soul that touched so many around her.

There will be a visitation on August 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on August 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM, officiated by Bro. Franky Smith and Bro. Roger Pounders. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Vernell's love for family, her nurturing spirit, and her gentle touch will forever be a part of the lives she has left behind.
