William Matthew "Matt" Dexter

William Matthew “Matt” Dexter was born March 7, 1975, and departed this life April 8, 2026. Matt seldom met a stranger. Even in failing health, he kept in touch with those who shared a love for a man that saw good in everyone.

In a world of conflict and discord, Matt had an innate ability to be in harmony with his surroundings. He did not focus on things that could bring him down. Instead, he tried to move through life with respect and compassion for his fellow man.

Life for Matt was far from easy, but he never complained nor did he blame others for his plight. He took each day as it came with a smile reflecting the one in his heart. To know Matt was to love him. What you saw was real and how he treated others was with kindness.

Eleanor Roosevelt so eloquently wrote, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints in your heart.” For those who knew Matt as a friend, he left his mark that will serve us all well to follow.

Matt is survived by his son, William “Brody” Dexter (Carly); his mother, Theresa Rainey (Billy); his sister, Dawn Laster (Brad); his two other special sisters, Ferrin Calvert (Keith) and Carlynn Crawford (Jeff); his nieces and nephews, Tyler Smith (Jenna), Taylor LaFever (Hunter), and Jaxson Laster; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tatum Smith, Baylor LaFever, Kohen Smith, Bennett LaFever, and Charlie Grace LaFever; his uncle, W.J. Deese (Linda); and a host of other loved family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Stanley Dexter; his grandparents, W.T. and Betty Dexter and Willard R. and Juanita Deese; and his uncles, Havis R. Deese and Nolan Lee Deese.

Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by Rev. Mike Lee, Bro. Billy Glover, and Dianne Harris. Honorary pallbearers include his special group of friends: Bobby Bonds, Joey Brown, Stephen Cutshall, Claude Dalton, Dr. Al Flannery, Heath Ham, Glenn Ray Harris, Little David Johnson, Ronald Jones, Kelly Milligan, Billy Newcomb, Anthony Powell, Alan Smith, Johnny Southward, Dale Wadkins, Steve Wadkins, Jerry Wayne White, Big Sidney Whitehurst, Lil Sidney Whitehurst, and Mike Wadkins.
